The Day of the Dead, the Hungry Ghost Festival, and Halloween

In three disparate parts of the world humans deal with the subjects of death, spirits, deceased ancestors, and the unknown in their own unique way. At first glance, each culture has created festivities that comply only with their social norms and beliefs. However, they all have to do with ‘souls’ in one way or another.

Interestingly however, these festivities open a brief window into the cultural diversity present in our world today. Amazingly, these celebrations exhibit many similarities despite the geographical distance between the cultures that practice them. This shows that we are not all that different after all.
